Obesity, lack of movement or what....?

Most people think obesity is caused by not moving enough.

The evidence tells a different story.

It’s not lack of movement that’s driving weight gain.

It’s what we’re putting on our plates.

For years, we've been told to exercise more. And movement absolutely matters, it improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, supports mental wellbeing, and helps us live longer.

But when it comes to preventing and reversing obesity, the bigger question isn't:

"How much are you moving?"

It's:

"What are you eating?"

Researchers have found that diets particularly the rise of ultra-processed foods is the primary driver of obesity in developed countries.

FACT we cannot out run this lifestyle it has caught up it has born its fruit. It may not have caused obesity in the previous generations but it did cause other issues.

Research shines a flashlight on the real problem: our modern food environment.

Many products marketed as food aren't really food at all.

They're industrial formulations engineered for shelf life, convenience, and repeat consumption.

They are NOT food.....

Chemically produced food-like substances that the human body struggles to recognise and process.

The result (the fruit)

chronic inflammation,

metabolic dysfunction,

insulin resistance leading eventually to obesity and chronic disease.

The solution is not complicated, but it requires a shift in thinking.

Eat food

Prioritise real, whole foods. If you can't kill it or grow it, it's not food.

Yes, move thats why we have legs, carry that why we have arms.

Obesity isn't simply an exercise problem.

It's what we have come to believe is food problem.

And until we address what is on our plates, we'll continue treating symptoms instead of solving the cause.

Part II I'll cover the birth of obesity
